Throughout the day, they visited residence halls, the library, lecture halls, and experienced the cafeteria firsthand. In those moments, I remember thinking, “If it’s possible for others, it can be possible for me”. My life’s trajectory completely changed during that trip. I witnessed perseverance and resilience. With a fear of future debt I studied, worked hard, and researched every scholarship opportunity. The last thing I expected was to be admitted to a prestigious PWI [predominantly white institution]. As a first-generation Latina I thought I would not fit in, but I discovered that my background, my differences, my life experiences, were perceived by the college as a strength and an asset to the college’s diverse community. I was warmly welcomed. I am happy. I am thriving. My life has changed because one spring, two years ago, I attended that unassuming four-day gocampusing college campuses tour.
