We Come From?
goCAMPUSing was created by a High School Junior as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. Later, with the help and input from a Director of School Counseling at a major New York High School, a Girl Scout Troop Leader with 15+ years experience, and a group of parents of high school students, goCAMPUSing College Tours was born.
The premise of goCAMPUSing began with the concept that a high school student should have an opportunity to have their initial college visits without their parents, in order to allow the students a feeling of independence, responsibility, and to develop a better appreciation of the entire college selection and application process. No judgments. No lectures. No pressures. No predetermined outcomes. Just a steady flow of information to open minds.
We Do It?
goCAMPUSing’s seasoned team of professionals schedule all the college visits and college admissions sessions. goCAMPUSing saves families hours of scheduling the college visits, the hours of driving, fuel costs, the automotive wear and tear, and the tensions and bickering between family members. Plus parents don’t have to take time off from work for their child to get their exposure to college.
And that allows families to keep their vacation time as vacation time and not make visiting colleges just a side tour.
goCAMPUSing College Advisors and Staff are experienced and are in a unique position to get around the facade of the unconcerned teen or stressed out teen, who may have difficulty interacting with their parents, (usually represented on a college tour with their parents by embarrassment, defiance or detachment). The goCAMPUSing college tour dynamics sparks a college bound high school student’s feeling of independence, self responsibility and inquisitiveness. They then become involved and engaged in the college visit, selection, and application processes.
Who Are We?
As goCAMPUSing College Advisors and chaperones, we provide adult supervision throughout the entire tour and we also offer a wealth of the most up-to-date knowledge about all of the college’s visited. goCAMPUSing’s College Advisors focus 100% on all aspects of the college selection and application process focused on the specific goals of the students on the tour. With each goCAMPUSing staffer having visited at least 25 colleges within the last 12 months, (that’s more than most School Counselors see in their entire career) our goCAMPUSing staff is intimately familiar with all aspects of the college selection and application process.
High School counselors are great, but they are burdened with many academic, behavioral and social issues, (academic performance, truancy, bullying, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, gangs, etc…), so advising students and explaining the college selection and application process is usually a brief meeting and then a quick referral to college websites.
Our goCAMPUSing College Advisors deliver a stress free non-judgmental stream of information. The unique goCAMPUSing college tour approach not only engages the students on our tours, but in most cases improves the levels of communication and interaction with their parents when they return from a goCAMPUSing college tour, (we get dozens of emails from parents telling us exactly this experience). This result is usually represented by students telling parents what they have learned and how less stressed they are about college and wanting to see/visit more specific colleges and eventually wanting to share more targeted colleges with their parents.
